I never planned on doing these destination guides, but you all are asking for them, and I love that you love travel and food as much as I do.
So I am excited to add this to our Fancy lineup! I don’t post in real-time when traveling with the family because we really cherish the reset. These blogs are definitely the way to go to share answers to ALL your questions after we’ve gotten home.
Without further ado, here’s a simple breakdown of what we LOVED in Anguilla:
First of all, Anguilla is THE secret gem of the Caribbean. It has the most pristine white sand beaches and most stunning turquoise waters I have actually ever seen, hands down (yes, even greener than any Grecian island).
The local flavors are great, the sunsets/sunrises are epic, and the day-long adventures are incredible. Where St. Barthes (our favorite spot in the Caribbean, guide coming soon) feels more like a party: luxurious, fancy, and upbeat, Anguilla is the exact opposite, which is why it’s AWESOME. Anguilla is laid back luxury where you can truly unwind and wear your flip-flops to dinner every night. It’s truly a 25-kilometre-long slice of paradise.
My friend suggested we rent a Moke and so we did, because we are so not resorters. We like to explore off-property a lot wherever we go. If that’s your thing, I suggest you follow suit and make your way to these delicious eateries and stunning white sand beaches (there’s 33 of them!), each more beautiful than the next.
📍Where We Stayed
-
Four Seasons - Paradise. We loved it here. It was great for the kiddos, and not in the annoying way where you feel like you're at Disney World. There's separation if you fancy and loads for them to do on the property.
📍Where We Lunched
-
The food at the Sunset Lounge (named for its epic sunset/sunrise situation) has great sushi, several vegan options and top-notch cocktails - (they make a mean skinny spicy marg). Go for sunset with the kids and take in the beauty of the island.
-
Trattoria Tramonto - this place is only open for lunch and if after a couple of days, you are feeling like you need a break from all the Caribbean seafood, its the jam.
-
Blanchard’s Beach Shack - The Best Tacos. AND an incredible kale salad and goat cheese to boot. If you’re into a Cubano, it's absolutely incredible. We have friends who pick up their lunch from here every day for take-out. I wanted to bring it back to NYC- yes, its that good. (Blanchard’s Restaurant is great for dinner, too- it's separate from the SHACK)
-
Cap Shack at Cap Juluca - Stunning, vibey, and absolutely DELICIOUS: the jerk pork tacos were literally to die for. The view can’t be beat, either.
-
Straw Hat is great for lunch and dinner, we loved getting take-away here and hitting the beach. But if you do decide to stay, the view here is pretty killer.
-
Sandy Island- For a quick getaway, take the daily sea shuttle or charter a boat for the day and stop to explore this tiny island right off Sandy Ground. It is home to the Caribbean’s best beach bar and restaurant in the middle of the ocean. The local seafood is where its at.
📍Where We Dinner-ed
-
Veya - Perched in a golden "treehouse" above Sandy Ground, Veya is an epicurean dream. We had the pleasure of meeting chef Carrie Bogar, who is actually from Pennsylvania and fell in love with the island, so decided to raise her family there. She is amazing, and so is her fare. You cannot leave without sampling the Moroccan Spiced Shrimp "Cigars," made with my favorite ingredient of all time: phyllo. 😉 They also have a regular live band, so I danced the night away with my children in the balmy breeze. It was perfection.
-
Jacalaa- Feeling French and fabulous? This is the spot for you.
-
Tokyo Bay - Fresh sashimi, delectable teppanyaki, Japanese steak, and a huge selection of sake. It’s located on the Aurora resort, and alongside the incredible food, taking in a different property is always so fun.
-
Picante- This place is casual and delicious. Top notch Mexican food with the lushest Margs I’ve have ever had.
-
Uchi - Incredible Peruvian food in a stunning setting at the gorgeous Cap Juluca.
Please let us know what your favorite spots are.
